Foot control not working

If you recently installed the software on your PC, make sure you installed the correct module.

• Dictation Module doesn’t support the use of a foot switch for transcription.
• Transcription Module does support the use of a foot switch for transcription.

The license key determines which module is installed. This is usually indicated on the green license slip. Alternatively, the first two characters of the license indicate this. For the Transcription Module, it is either RT or ST, and for the Dictation Module, it is either RD or SD.

If you are using a Mac, you do not need to check this because there is only one software that caters to both functions.

If you are using ODMS Cloud, make sure you are logged in with a user account that has the “Transcriptionist” role.

To find the model number of your foot switch, look on the back of the pedal or where the cable comes out. The model name starts with “RS-“.

There are two ways to check if the foot switch is recognized.

In the Transcription Module status bar or the ODMS Cloud play bar, you will see a foot switch icon on the bottom right of the software.

In Device Manager on the PC, the foot switch will be recognized as a HID-compliant device. For details on how to check, please contact your IT support team.

• If the foot switch is not recognized, try connecting it to a different USB port on the PC. Some computer USB ports and USB hubs do not provide sufficient power for the foot switch to operate correctly.
• If you have another foot switch, try connecting it to the PC.
• If you have access to another PC, try connecting the foot switch to it.
• If you do not have access to another foot switch or PC, try connecting another USB device to the PC.

These tests help identify whether the problem is with the foot switch or the PC.

If you are using the foot switch with ODMS software, make sure it is in OM SYSTEM mode.

If you are using the foot switch with another application that supports keyboard shortcuts, make sure it is in Keyboard mode.
